Homeschooling Outside the Box

Are you starving yourself?

Brandy Vencel wrote an article a few years ago that challenged parents to consider if they were starving their children's minds which made me consider, also, if I was starving my own mind. Mothers are commonly attributed with being self-sacrificing, but in terms of the mind, we must remember that we cannot pour out from an empty well.

I'm so excited to share Brandy's encouragement and challenge to mothers today to find a way to nurture your own mind for the sake of yourself and others. Think that's unrealistic? Don't have time? Don't worry, we cover all the why's and how's on the show.

In this episode you'll hear:

  • what the term "mother culture" means and why it's floating around the Charlotte Mason community
  • how reading different levels of books can make reading happen for you this summer
  • the difference between hard books and easy books and how to read light while avoiding twaddle
  • how keeping your world "big" can keep your head above water when you're in the weeds of motherhood
  • you'll also hear a bit lower quality on my end (because I forgot to have my husband set up my mic before he left for work and I muddled through set up on my own), my dog barking and my neighbor cutting his lawn...my apologies in advance for the distractions. Consider this proof that I am a real, flawed person ;)
